Within Europe the bus and coach industry is awaiting the implementation of a European wide approval scheme similar to that already in existence for cars. In the meantime, each Member State has been operating their own set of National requirements. However, during October 2007, the long awaited amendment to the type approval framework directive (70/156/EEC) was signed. Directive 2007/46/EC introduces the basis of a European wide approval scheme for buses and coaches and this legislation will be introduced over the coming years. EC approval of buses and coaches will be based around a "whole vehicle" framework and this will specify the range of aspects of the vehicle that must be approved to separate technical Directives. Hence, in order to gain EC whole vehicle approval, a vehicle will first have to be approved for e.g. brakes, emissions, noise, etc. The chart shows subjects which can be applied to buses and coaches but not those which are mandatory. VCA already has a number of bus and coach customers and can help you find your way around the legislation. If you export this kind of product to Europe you need to know how the legislation affects you. VCANA has expert knowledge of this area and can help you to obtain the certification you need to export to European markets and beyond. The following linked PDF files explain things in more detail: Open European Type Approval for Automotive Systems and Components document. The Value of working with VCA
