Recreational Craft Directive

Recreational Craft

The Requirement

Recreational craft directive 2003/44/EC, amending 94/25/EC, came into effect on the 1st of January 2005. For the first time the directive introduced a provision for noise and exhaust emissions testing. Another primary effect of the directive was to extend the scope to personal watercraft

What does this mean for you?

If you are in the recreational craft business and you want to sell products into the European union, you need to understand how this directive affects you. Compliance with noise and exhaust emissions standards will be mandatory from 31st December 2005, unless the engine is a two-stroke with spark ignition, in which case the mandatory application date is 31st December 2006.

Who can help me with this?

VCA is on hand to help you make sense of the legislation and how it might affect you. VCA is a Notified Body so can provide certification services for noise and exhaust emissions. Operating from offices around the world, VCA can meet your needs wherever you are. Note that VCA North America are also able to perform EPA and CARB certifications at the same time as the Recreational Craft testing, if these are also required.
