Home Page > Staff Profiles > Rob Brayfield Rob Brayfield, PresidentRob Brayfield gained his Masters Degree in Automobile Engineering from the Cranfield Institute of Technology in the United Kingdom in 1975, after receiving basic engineering training in the machine tool and racing car industries. After a spell at the drawing board designing racing cars, Rob moved into the quality control and inspection fields, gaining experience testing many types of engineering products, including pumps and compressors, generating equipment, road vehicles, diesel electric locomotives, heavy fabrications and even motor patrol boats. In 1981, Rob joined the RWTUeV e.V. and passed the written examinations and practical tests to become an "officially recognized expert for vehicle traffic" in the Federal Republic of Germany - possibly a unique achievement for a British citizen. In 1990, Rob became a certified ISO 9000 auditor, making the transition from quality control to quality assurance. This qualification assisted Rob to perform more effective Conformity of Production audits on manufacturers seeking German national approvals and to better assess the abilities of laboratories used for official tests. After ten years with this organization, helping UK exporters to Germany by approving motor vehicles, pressure vessels and other technical products in accordance German national requirements, Rob joined the UK Vehicle Certification Agency, an executive agency of the then Department of Transport. Seven years were spent as manager of the HQ team of vehicle type approval test engineers. In 1998 Rob was promoted to Head of Operations at VCA North America, where he has responsibility for both the type approval and management systems certification activities.
